Why wax?
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from the skin’s surface. Over time, hair in waxed areas regrows lighter and more sparse, or not at all. Even fine hair shadows the face, distorting and aging your features.
How long does my hair need to be?
Hair needs to be 1/4 inch long. If it is too short, the hair will be difficult to remove. More pain is associated with longer growth. If you typically shave please allow 7-10 days between shaving and waxing.
What is the difference between a standard bikini and a brazilian bikini?
A standard bikini wax removes all of the hair from your bikini area that would be visible if you were wearing a standard bikini, an extended bikini wax moves downward and inward from a standard bikini. Brazilian waxing is the most intimate of all waxing services and removes all of the hair in the bikini area and all hair from your backside as well. Some clients prefer to leave a small amount behind and others prefer to go completely bare, the decision is entirely up to the individual. For more information on Brazilian waxing, please visit the Brazilian link located on the menu.
***Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean.
How long will the results last?
Appointments are usually scheduled every 4 weeks. If this is your first waxing experience you can reasonably expect your results to last between 3 and 6 weeks with minimal growth in the days and weeks following your appointment, depending on how quickly your particular hair grows. Hair regrowth patterns are cyclical and you will notice an improvement in regard to the longevity of your results as you become regular with your waxing services.
Is body waxing sanitary?
There is never any double-dipping of our waxing implements, and therefore, no risk of cross-contamination.
What should i expect after my first waxing treatment?
Hairless skin! Also, everyone’s skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, but you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Slight itchiness may be experienced as the hair grows out. Proper post-wax care will alleviate these symptoms quickly.
If you’re a bride or attending a special occasion, I recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day to see how your skin reacts. If everything is fine, reschedule another wax a few days before
Does body waxing cause hair to re-grow thicker?
No. This is a complete myth. Waxing, in fact, is know to actually stop hair growth all together in some cases. It is important to keep in mind though that waxing should be used as a temporary hair removal method as the slowing or stopping of hair growth takes many years of consistent waxing.
Is waxing safe for those with sensitive skin?
If done properly, waxing can be a great benefit to people with sensitive skin. It is much more gentle on the skin than many other methods of hair removal, IE. shaving and at home depilatories. It is impossible to predict who will have a reaction to the wax or any product used. If you have sensitive skin it is very important to follow the instructions in the pre-waxing guide as well as the post-waxing guide.
What type of wax is used?
We use different types of wax for different services. Most waxing services require the use of hard wax, which hardens on the skin and is then removed. Hard wax is perfect for use on people who have sensitive skin as the wax encapsulates each individual hair and does not attach to skin. For some services provided a strip wax, or soft wax, is best to use. Stripwax is applied to the skin and a small piece of paper is pressed over the top and is removed in that fashioned. All of the waxes used are of the highest quality and the results are superior because of this.
How can I prevent ingrown hairs?
- For the next 24-48 hours avoid on the waxed areas:
- use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)
- direct sun exposure and tanning beds
- creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
- deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles
- wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation
- excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay.
- exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating
- touching the freshly waxed area: this encourages irritation
- After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation with a shower gel and loofah or exfoliating glove will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs.
- Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatment areas. Since waxing exfoliates as well as removing hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your treatment
Do you treat men?
Yes! However, we have some requirements for it. Call us and find out.
Who should not be waxed?
- Anyone currently taking Isotretinoin ( Accutane ) or who has taken Accutane at any time within the past 6 months.
- Anyone who has an active Herpes outbreak
- Anyone with a sunburn on the area to be treated
- Anyone who has had a chemical peel over the treatment within the past 7 days
- Anyone who has used any type of Retinol within the past 36 hours over the treatment area. There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while on or using a medication
- Any area of the skin showing signs of trauma, varicose veins, open or active acne lesions, eczema, psoriasis or any type of dermatitis will not be waxed

- lightly exfoliate the area to be treated (please note that aggressive exfoliation will compromise the skin and make a waxing service inadvisable)
- Take a mild anti-inflammatory. This is typically only recommended for Brazilian and extended bikini waxes and will help to relieve some of the discomfort associated with these waxing procedures as well as reduce the swelling that you may experience.
- Discontinue all use of retinoids and other chemical exfoliating agents for at least 72 hours. This is very important and failure to do so could result in lifting of the skin as these products compromise the integrity of the skin. This includes all topical prescription acne medication.
- If you are a sunbather, or frequent the tanning salon, it is important to stay out of the sun (artificial or not) for a minimum of 24 hours prior to your service. Waxing services will not be performed if any redness due to sun exposure is present on the skin. This measure is taken solely for our clients’ safety and benefit.
- If you enjoy exercising, please do so before your waxing appointment. Exercise directly after is not recommended due to the higher risk of causing breakout.
- Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 24 hours, or until the tenderness subsides.
- Avoid all mechanical and chemical exfoliating agents for at least 24 hours. This includes all topical acne medication as well as all forms of retinoids.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 12 hours. This is especially important if you are susceptible to breakout as the bacteria naturally present on the skin and in perspiration are more easily able to enter the hair follicle and cause inflammation during this time.
- Avoid hot tubs for a minimum of 12 hours as your skin is more easily able to absorb the chemical toxins present in most hot tubs
- Avoid fragranced products of all kinds (soaps, lotions) for at least 12 hours
- Begin exfoliating 48 hours after your wax and continue to exfoliate 3 times per week to minimize the presence of ingrown hairs. If you suffer from ingrown hairs it can be beneficial to discontinue the use of bar soaps as they contain ingredients that are known to increase the presence of ingrown hairs.
